11/13/24 Tumwater PTO Board Meeting Minutes
We had a busy meeting with an exciting opportunity to approve almost $10K in grants for programs at our school! See below for all of the approved grants and a link to our board meeting minutes.
Approved Grants:
Classroom Headphones for the World Language Department $130
Alesis Multimix 10 Wireless for music classroom, $350
Rebounder Nets for PE classes, $560
Recess Balls for all grades for lunch recess, $500
Winco Gift Cards for Thanksgiving/Winter break community needs, $2300
Sensory aids & games for ISC, $450
Sewing Machines & Cricut machine for Design classes, $1841
Incentives for attendance program, $1090
Partially Approved Grants:
Garden Beds for Gardening Club to start a school garden, approved $1000 for 2 garden beds & supplies
Cooking Supplies for SRC, approved $240 for 3 months funding. If all of the money is utilized, SRC teacher can request additional grant for more funding
Peg Board for ADL skill for SRC, approved up to $500 for cost of peg board, shelves & reusable grocery bags only
Trophy for Spirit Competition, approved up to $225 for 3 grade-level trophies, Laura to suggest options
Total Grant Money Approved: $9,186

Nov 7th Parent Education Speaker Chelsey Goodan
Join us as USA Today best-selling author and speaker Chelsey Goodan brings 16 years of experience mentoring teen girls to speak to our most pressing questions as parents today. During two, not-to-be-missed evenings (11/7 & 1/29), Chelsey will cover a wide range of topics including navigating social media, anxiety and stress, friendships and social dynamics, the importance of consent and the power of words.
Her book, Underestimated, the Wisdom and Power of Teenage Girls, was released earlier this year and has hit a firestorm of praise from the likes of Oprah, Hello Sunshine, Hoda & Jenna and Time. She also volunteers on the nonprofit board A Call to Men. Her two part series with Tumwater parents will be devoted to helping our students feel seen and heard while navigating these challenging years of teen parenting.
Oct Community Meeting Minutes
The October Community Meeting included updates from Principal Matt Smith, the Tumwater PTO Board, plus the Beaverton Police Youth Services Officer for Tumwater, Officer Mansfield.

Highlights:
Locker use for all & cell phone policy have both been successful so far this year
Rising Tides campaign has almost reached our goal and has had 160+ families participate
OBOB registration due Nov 22nd
First Art Lit Training, Oct 24th, 6:30pm!
Parent Education Speaker (funded by PTO), Chelsey Goodan, will be speaking on 11/7. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear a Nationally recognized author.
Community Meeting 10/15
Join us for the first PTO Community Meeting of the year, Tuesday October 15th at 6:30pm in the TMS Library. Hear an update from Principal Matt Smith plus an overview of the PTO’s plans for the school year. As a parent or guardian at Tumwater, you are automatically part of the PTO. Community meetings are a great way to connect with other parents, to learn how to get involved as a volunteer at Tumwater and to learn more about school overall.
Doors will open at 6:15, come early to mix and mingle!

Parent Welcome Coffee
All parents/guardians are invited to the Tumwater Commons from 9:45-10:45am on Wednesday, August 28 to enjoy coffee, pastries, and each other's company, hosted by the Tumwater PTO.
This is a drop-in, casual event. Pop in for a few minutes or stay the whole hour. Say hello to old friends and meet new friends.
Board members will be there to answer questions about Tumwater and getting involved in the school community.

Join us at Tumwater’s Ice Cream Social
Join us on Wed, August 8/21 for an all-school welcome ice cream social!
Students will have the opportunity to get their schedule, walk through the building, meet the staff, and enjoy an ice cream treat brought to you by Tumwater PTO.
Your PTO Board will also be back with their wheel of prizes, ready to answer your questions and get your family set for 2024-25!

Parking is limited. Please consider carpooling, walking, or biking.
Enter through the main entrance (north side of the building) by the sign.
Have your student pull up their schedule on their phone. (But if you forget to download the schedule, it is available at school.)
Students can enjoy a self-guided tour of all their classes & briefly meet their teachers.
Get a ticket from the 8th period teacher for one free student ice cream.
Head to the Commons to enjoy Handel’s ice cream! Additional options for family members will be available for purchase. Handel’s will donate 20% of sales to Tumwater PTO!

Graphing calculators are available for checkout in the library for students enrolled in AGS2 and AGS3.

Donations Accepted
The school office is accepting donations of any of the above supplies to share with other students. In addition, our Art classrooms are seeking donations of the following household items to reuse:

Donations can be dropped off in the school office Monday - Thursday 8 am - 2 pm throughout the summer.
May 2024 Community Meeting Minutes
The May Community Meeting included updates from Vice Principal Kimberly Haskins and your Tumwater PTO Board. The Board also reviewed this year’s successes and plans for next year with current and incoming families. Highlights include:

Community Grant Program Funds 15 Projects in 2023-24
Tumwater PTO’s Community Grant program funded 15 projects this school year, supporting the afterschool clubs, science, technology, language arts, student services, band, library & PE programs of TMS.
In total, Tumwater PTO awarded over $21,000 to support these specific asks of Tumwater staff:

As you can see in the chart below, the funds were really well distributed across a variety of programs and academic departments.
