Be in the know.
THANK YOU 2022-23 Volunteers
The success of our PTO events & programs is directly related to the time, effort & contribution of our community volunteers. In a year of continued COVID chaos & restrictions, our parent community stepped up to make magic happen for these middle schoolers.
While we value EVERY hour from EVERY volunteer, a special thank you is due to the following everyday heroes who stepped into a larger leadership position this school year. We couldn’t have done this without these MVPs.

Open PTO Positions for 2023-24
Several exciting positions are opening up for 2023-24. See how you can make a positive impact on our Tumwater community!
VP OF FUNDRAISING
This Board position oversees our annual fall Rising Tides fundraising campaign & coordinates our matching funds program. The bulk of the work takes place in mid-August through mid-October. This role is also a member of our PTO Board, allowing for greater input into the goals & direction of the organization & reviewing grant applications throughout the school year.
STAFF APPRECIATION
The least controversial position of all! This role is sheer joy, organizing monthly (or so) staff appreciation events for our grateful TMS staff. This position is great for 2-3 friends & has the freedom to be as creative (or non-creative) as possible. Start a whole new vision or turn the wheel from the last two years— it’s up to you!
SOCIAL MEDIA
Join our communications team by managing our social media! Use canva & meta business suite to create (from templates) & schedule our latest news. All previous posts & images are stored for your reference, so you won’t be reinventing the wheel.
WELCOME EVENTS
The event planning role will coordinate with TMS on the ice cream social (the ice cream part) & organize the welcome coffees. You’ll be done by August 29th! All details from past years is well documented & ready to be your resource.

Art Lit Training Session Next Tuesday, 11/15
Please join us for a fun night of ART as you learn to deliver our first art literacy lesson on the artist Wayne Thiebaud. The training is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15th from 6:30-8pm in Room B110 at Tumwater Middle School.
The link to the training session can be found here: Fall Art Lit Training Session.
Our Art Lit Coordinator, Melissa Manos, will run through the lesson as you would to the students (10 minutes—no more! We want the majority of the classroom time to let the kids create!) and then we will do the production together.
Wayne Thiebaud is known for his still life, with a pop-art influence. We will be playing around with watercolors using primary colors for accents and shadows. It'll be fun!
At our training, we should have the schedule for the classroom sessions so you can sign up for your child's class that night! The program will launch in the classrooms the first week back from Thanksgiving break.
Not in our TMS volunteer database? Head to our Volunteering page for more info.
If you have any questions about Art Literacy, please contact Melissa at artlit@tumwaterpto.org

8th Grade Celebration Co-chairs Needed
ATTENTION 8TH GRADE FAMILIES!
Our 8th graders are entering their last year of middle school before they brave the halls of high school. And let's face it-- being a middle schooler these past few years has been bumpy at best. So let's give them a send-off to remember!
We are looking for co-chairs to lead the charge of the 2023 8th grade celebration, already scheduled for Tuesday, 6/20/23.
Things to consider:
It's a team effort & not rocket science!
It's been done before, so hey, copy what they did last June & call it good!
All can be easily delegated to multiple people so no ONE PERSON is responsible for all.
Email Hannah (president@tumwaterpto.org) if you are interested. Grab a friend & let's make some magic happen!

Volunteer for Field Day on Tuesday, 6/21
Our final volunteer event for the school year will be helping staff run field day on the last day of school (Tuesday 6/21). There are shifts available for each grade level, as well as shifts for those who want to volunteer for the full day. Links to the volunteer opportunities are shown below.
Volunteers must have their COVID vaccine record/exemption approved by the district in order to view, sign up and volunteer for these shifts. If you have any questions about volunteering for this event, please send our Tumwater PTO Volunteer Coordinator, Kristi Nelson, an email at volunteer@tumwaterpto.org.
If you are unable to view these volunteer opportunities . . .
Or if you get an error when you click on the link, then it is very likely that you do not have your COVID vaccine record/exemption approved by the district. Only volunteers with an approved COVID vaccination/exemption are allowed to volunteer in person, thus the opportunities are not visible to volunteers missing this approval.
You can now check your profile to see if your vaccination status has been approved. Click on MY PROFILE → Qualifications. Select “Tumwater Middle School” as the organization, and the qualifications should state if you have an approved COVID vaccination status.
More info can be found at www.tumwaterpto.org/volunteer.
Volunteers Needed for 8th Grade Celebration on 6/17
Volunteer shifts are now available for the 8th Grade Celebration, scheduled for Friday, 6/17.
As a reminder, all volunteers must be in our TMS volunteer system. If you log into mIP and are unable to see these shifts, then you have not requested your profile be moved to the TMS system or have not completed the vaccination/exemption process. More info can be found at www.tumwaterpto.org/volunteer. Questions regarding mIP can be directed to Kristi (volunteer@tumwaterpto.org).
Candywalk Donations: Sign-up to make the candywalk more fun by donating one (or five!) sweet treats.
Haven't donated yet? There's still time via Paypal.
